30 July - The Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI) has announced a seminar focused on the use of variable data and personalization.  The course will be held on August 18, 2009, and will be conducted by Steve Brown, a teacher and consultant specializing in the use of data by creatives.   Brown is the general partner, owner, and founder of Thetasphere, a firm specializing in FileMaker Pro applications.  The course will detail how to design database solutions which increase productivity and efficiency.  Students will develop multipage PDF files containing catalog cover spreads for various customers.  Each spread will be customized with variable data and advanced personalization, based on buyer demographics and preferences.  The FileMaker Pro solution used to create the PDF will be discussed at length.  Employees who would benefit from the course include in-house FileMaker developers, graphic designers, production managers, marketing personnel, IT staff and CTOs.

6 August - DiMS! organizing print has named Randall Blinn as Senior Implementation Consultant in the North American market. In his new capacity, Blinn will assist printers implementing DiMS! software. Blinn is widely known in the printing and converting community as the former President of Graphic Computer Consultants, a firm which he headed for more than 25 years. Before starting his consultancy, Blinn was associated with another graphic arts computer firm, Stewart Systems. A graduate of the printing program at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Blinn also holds an MBA degree from the Keller Graduate School of Business in Chicago.

 

4 August - The Institute for Graphics and Imaging (IGI) - an education and training organization funded by and dedicated to the printing and graphic arts industry - has named the officers of its Board of Directors for the coming year.  Elected at a recent meeting, after serving previously as directors, were:
